John Bane, here treated, is misidentified as the son of Thomas Bane in at least one pedigree published by WikiTree and in another twelve published by My Heritage but the date of birth offered for him, that is Edinburgh on 20 October 1601, suggests otherwise. The baptism registered on that date does belong to a child named John Bane, but the father is Archibald Bane, rather than Thomas Bane.
