" ... Nasemond Co. VA was the home of these people. John Barham moved to
N.C. and settled near Wake Forest. I don't know what date but when his son
John (Jack) was 15 years old. Jack died in 1865 after the close of the war.
He was then 70 years old.
When John Barham was a young man, he bought 12 thousand acres of land
from the government in the vicinity of Wake Forest. His father said, son, you must be going to do something mean so you'll have some where to go and
hide. For the early 1700's N.C. was looked down on. He payed the
government 25 cents an acre and later sold it for $1.00 an acre.
John Barham moved to N.C. in the early 1800's . John (Jack) was 15 years
old and Nicholas was 13. He grew to be a Methodist preacher.
John Jack Barham ran away when he was 18 years old and joined the army
was in the battle at New Orleans in the war 1812. Don't know how long he
stayed from home. He finally came back and married Betsey Faison. She
was making her home at his brother's (Billy Barham). To this union were
born three girls ..."
