John Beatty was born in Ireland in 1783 and came to America 1in 1786 with his parents, his father was James Beatty, and an older brother James Beatty. They settled in eastern Pennsylvania but his father died shortly after. John Beatty served as a substitute in the Army, for his older brother James, in the War of 1812 from Pennsylvania. John Beatty came from Mifflin County, Pennsylvania in 1824 to Stark County, Ohio where he resided until his death. In his early life he worked as a blacksmith and later farmed in Stark County, Ohio. He applied for a War of 1812 veteran's pension but it was never granted to him or Christina.
