About John Williams Berry
The son of Jesse Woods Berry (1791 - 1844) and Armelia Shanks Berry (1804 - 1893), John Willilams Berry was born 17 December 1822 at Lebanon, Wilson County, Tennessee. He married Nancy Jane Bass ( - 1892) 4 Apr 1842 in Lebanon, Wilson, Tennessee. They had one son, Jesse David Berry (25 September 1843 - 9 October 1843), who died in infancy and is buried at Lebanon, Wilson, Tennessee. John Williams Berry married his second wife, Jane Elizabeth Thomas, on 8 May 1851 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Together they had ten children. He and his third wife, Julia Ardena Hales, were married on 28 December 1858 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah. John Williams Berry was shot in the arm by Indians as he was carrying a message to President Brigham Young from Southern Utah to Salt Lake City. The bullet could not be removed so he carried it in his arm for the rest of his life, John Williams Berry died 12 April 1890 at Kanarraville, Iron County, Utah Territory, and was buried at Kanarraville Cemetery.
