A Patriot of the American Revolution for VIRGINIA (Soldier). DAR Ancestor # A010683

John Blackburn moved to Frederick County, VA in 1742-43 with his parents and other members of the Blackburn Family. In 1773 he moved to SW Virginia and settled on Beaver Creek between Abingdon and Bristol. In 1780 he took part in the Battle of Kings Mountain. In 1783 he moved to Jefferson County, Tennessee. He was an Elder of the Hopewell Presbyterian Church of Dandridge, served several terms as a Justice of the Peace, and served on the Board of Trustees of Tusculum College.

John BLACKBURN, (Benjamine BLACKBURN, John) was born Dec 25, 1740 in Chester, Pa,

and on Apr 12, 1765 in Frederick, Va, married Janet MATTHEWS, daughter of Alexander MATHEWS and GRIZZEL, who was born Apr 23, 1747 in Frederick, Va. John died on Feb 9, 1808 in Dandridge, Jefferson, Tn and was buried in Same. Janet died on Sep 29, 1818 in Dandridge, Jefferson, Tn.
