John Boston, son of Samuel M. and Leah (Merrill) Boston, born near Newtown, Md. 3 Sept. 1804; died, probably near Newtown, 14 Jan. 1854; mar. 1st (lic. Worc. Co., Md. 4 aug. 1825) Mary L. Barrett, daughter presumably of James and Catherine (Layfield) Barrett, born near Newtown, 5 Sept. 1802; died probably near Newtown, 15 Mar. 1839. He mar. 2nd (lic. Som. Co. 30 June 1840: ceremony performed 1 July) Leah Smith Adams, daughter of Thomas and Elinor S. (Landon) Adams, born probably near Newtown in Somerset Co., Md. 28 June 1817; died Pocomoke City (Newtown), Md. 28 Dec. 1879; she mar. 2nd (lic. Worc. Co. 2 Nov. 1860) Alfred H. Benson (b. 1819/20); in 1870 they were living in Newtown, where Benson was a bailiff.

On 13 Oct. 1834 John witnessed the will of Esther Benson in Worcester Co. On 1 Feb. 1835 he purchased from Betsy Barrett, for $145, "Hog Quarter" and Cypress Swamp known as "Great Conveniency," and 15 acres more of less, which came to her by the death of Thomas Layfield (Worc. Deeds GMH 2:367). On 10 Apr. 1843 he purchased from John Stevenson for $200 a Negro boy Henry, about 15 years old (Worc. Deeds GMH 6:307). On 29 Aug. 1843 with John Whittington and John H. Dennis he was appointed a commissioner in answer to a petition from Arthur R. and Shepherd A.R. Powell and Elijah Schoolfield, "anxious for a private road through land of a certain Robert Lamden to get down to their Cypress Swamp" (Worc. Deeds GMH 6:533). On 30 Nov. 1844 John Boston and Leah his wife, of Worcester Co., John Johnson and wife Sallie, and Levi, Levin, and Littleton Adams, all of Somerset Co., for $700, sold to Edward Broughton all that part of a tract (80 acres) being all the land which Thomas Adams of Levi late of Somerset Co. had; witnesses were S. Wilkins and Lazarus Lankford (Som. Deeds 62:356). On 5 July 1848 John Boston and his wife Leah S., with Samuel and Elizabeth Boston, all of Worcester Co., and Esau Boston and wife Ann, of Somerset Co., for $4378.25, sold to Levin Merrill of Worcester Co. tracts "Hog Quarter" and "Dennis Outlet," about two miles above Cedar Hall, adjacent Zadok Wheeler and the heirs of Henry Wheeler, land that Samuel Boston bought of Henry Wheeler and Edward Lambden, 89 1/4 acres that formerly belonged to Samuel Boston, the father of these heirs (Worc. Deeds EDM 2:135).
