About Colonel John Bradford, II

John Bradford was one of the first commissioners of the peace for Halifax County, North Carolina, a member of the assembly, a delegate to the fourth provincial congress in 1776, a revolutionary soldier, and a representative to the first General Assembly of North Carolina under the constitution of 1776. Colonel Bradford settled near Enfield, Halifax County, on land granted by Lord Granville; a portion of this land was given to is son Henry.

"The DAR database is an obvious mistake in someones research which has been repeated multiple times in other DAR requests. It's a virtual impossibility that he was born in 1708 when his mother was born around 1706. There is another "John Bradford" who was born "around" 1708 in 1706 in the Maryland area but this is a different John Bradford.

"Also, John Bradford was an active colonel in the Revolutionary War period. He would have in his 70's if he were born in 1708 which is very, very unlikely. Being born around 1730 would have made him around 45-47 during the War time. A much more likely scenario.

The Bradford House site (see below) estimates around 1730 for his birth date.
