About John Bridgman

John was the oldest and only surviving son of James and Mary Bridgman. He inherited his father's house and farm on Hawley Street in Northampton. He was made a Freeman 3 May 1676. Fourteen children were born to this family, all but 3 of whom lived to maturity. Most of them married and had children.

John Bridgman (son of James Bridgman and Sarah Lyman) was born 07 Jul 1645 in Springfield, MA, and died 07 Apr 1712 in Northampton, MA. He married Mary Sheldon on 11 Dec 1670 in Northampton, MA.

Notes for John Bridgman:

John was made Freeman in Colony of MA Bay on May 3, 1676. A freeman was required to be of Godly walk and conservation, to be at least 20 years old and to take the oath of allegiance to the Govt of MA Bay. That he should be worth 200 pounds to hold office when elected or submit to a fine of 40 shillings and to vote at all elections under penalty of some fine. He inherited his father's property on Hawley street. He died on April 7, 1712 and in his will bestowed his goods on wife and children.

Alss John Bridgman for saying if those cattell wch the Constable presented hand been his, he would have fought for them before they should have been taken: he owned ye words & acknowledged his word & craved ye favor of ye Cort, whereupon he was judged to be admonished before ye favor of ye Court (wch was accordingly done) and that he should make acknowledgement of his offence it some publike meeting in Northampton or also to pay 10 Schillings as a fyne to ye County; the former of wch he engaged before the Corte to doe.
