John Brocklebank Sr. migrated to New England during the Puritan Great Migration (1620-1640).


Widow Jane Brocklebank, from Yorkshire sailed from Hull, England in 1638 in the ship John, with a colony under the leadership of Reverend Ezekiel Rogers, accompanied by her sons Samuel b. about 1628 and John born about 1630. She was buried Dec. 26, 1668. (p. 148) [1] (p. 54) [2]

Ensign John Brocklebank who was born in England about 1630, married Sept. 26, 1657 Sarah Woodman, daughter of Archelaus and Elizabeth Woodman of Newbury. (p. 558) [3] (p. 5) [4][5]

1656: It was agreed and voted at a legal town meeting in the year 1656 that John Lambert, Richard Longhorne, John Boynton. Petter Cowper. John Brocklebanke and Lenard Harryman should have all the land and meadow from Thomas Dickinson stakes to the River. (p. 96) January 25, 1659: To John Brocklebanke five Acres be it more or less lying upon The Top of long hill abutting against Common land on the south and east and west ends the North side bounded by land of Samuell Brocklebanke (p. 140) Laid out Lands 1652 and Since that time but Now entered 1661: Sold unto John Brocklebanke By the men appointed by the Towne To Sell Land for the Raising pay, to pay the Leagacy Given unto Mr. Ezekiell Rogers of Ipswich By Mr. Ezekiell Rogers, late pastor of This Church of Rowley, for the purchase of those Lands Given upon The Condition as it Specified in the will of the said Mr. Ezekiell Rogers; Sold unto the said John, Ten Acres of upland Be it more or less as it lieth on the South of the pen land laid unto Thomas Mighill as is above expressed ; adjoining unto the said land at the end where the pen house stood one part of it and the south part joining to the north side of the meadow the west and north part of it Bounded by the Common and upon the Brooke that parts Between it and Samuell Brocklebankes land the east side adjoining unto the meadow that lieth at the south east Corner of the above said land that was laid out to Thomas Mighill also another part of the ten acres lieth between the two parcels of meadow Bounded by Common land next toward the town Through the which Ten Acres The Towne hath Reserved a sufficient and Convenient high way for driving Cattell and Carts as they may have occasion to make use of it. (p. 115) 1661: Survey of the Several gates and Commonages By order and appointment of The Towne Taken- (By the Selectmen Richard Swan, Thomas Tenney, Abell Langley, John Dreser, John Brocklebanke with Samuell Brocklebanke joining with them) upon the fourth of February 1661 That there may be a True Record of them according to their present state they now are in. February 25th: 61: 62 The selectmen for this present yeare Richard Swan, John Dreser, Thomas Tenny, Abell Langhley, John Brocklebank. Being empowered by the Town for to let or to dispose of the land that was Mr. Rogers is being purchased for the use of the Ministry They have Accordingly disposed of the same for the Term of Seven years .(p.129) January 9, 1664: Officers of The Towne for the Remaining part of the year 64 and 65; Selectmen Thomas Leaner, Samuell Plats, Thomas Nelson, John Brocklebanke, Leaonard Harriman. (p. 155) A bill of ye charges to the Town in ye year 1665: Left. (John) Brocklbank for selectman tending Court: Ipswich Court: 4 days; Salem Court: 3 days and charges; Boston Court; 4 days & 1 day votes to Salem; Treating with gold at Ipswich, meeting about Newbury, Lynn; For laying the land at Springe; To the General Court for petition. (p. 160-161)[6] John was buried April 5,1666. ( p. 54) [2] His will dated Nov. 30, 1665, proved Sept. 25, 1666 mentions wife Sarah, daughters Elizabeth, and Sarah, father in law Archelaus Woodman, and brother Samuel Brocklebank. His widow Sarah married John Adams. (p. 44)[7]


John of London Sailed from Hull England to Salem, Massachusetts during the summer of 1638. On board were about twenty families, nearly all from Yorkshire, under the leadership of Rev. Rogers of Rowley, England, near Hull. The ship landed in Salem Harbor where they stayed the winter and spent the time looking for a more permanent location to settle... a tract of land between Ipswich and Newbury-- the settlement began in the spring of 1639.
