Arrival 1717 Virginia[1]
The notion that immigrating brothers, Thomas and Joseph Butler, were sons of William O'Brien Butler was published 1909 in the work by William David Butler, The Butler Family in America.[2]
"Thomas Butler, born Dublin 1720, settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, 1748, grandson of Edmond Butler 8th Baronet Dunboyne ... Son of Catherine and Wm. O'Brien Butler, as her brothers died without descent."
Any number of questions and/or challenges exist regarding the parentage attributed to Thomas and Joseph. By his further association, thus also to James Butler, reported brother of Thomas and Joseph. Sources
