About John Boone Callaway (1781-1823)

SEE "Timeline" for chronological order of life events including any photos and documents as available; SEE "Media" for any documents and photos included from "Timeline" as available.

John Boone Callaway was born July 24, 1781 in Fayette County, Kentucky, eldest son of Flanders Callaway and Jemima (Boone, daughter of the famous frontiersman Daniel Boone) Callaway.

He married Elizabeth Caton. Their children are Emaline, Verlina, James, and Octavia Callaway.

He was a fine scribe and an excellent business man, and was Justice of the Peace and Judge of the County Court for many years. A large proportion of the old legal papers of St. Charles County have his name attached as Justice of the Peace. He had a mill and a distillery on Femme Osage creek. The water for the distillery was carried some distance in troughs, made by hollowing out poles, which were kept free of mud by crawfish placed in the troughs for that purpose.

On June 30, 1823 (a), John Boone Callaway, age 41, died in St. Charles County, Missouri with burial in the Old Bryan Farm Cemetery, Marthasville, Warren County, Missouri.
