About John Abbott Cantrell
John Abbott Cantrell born 30 January 1803 to Isaac Cantrell and Miss Abbott in Ireland. John emigrated to Philadelphia and died there in 1872. He was married to Annie Henry also born in Ireland and they had several children including Francis S. Cantrell who married Elizabeth Tomlinson.
JOHN ABBOTT CANTRELL 2 (Isaac 1 ) was born in
Ireland, Jan. 30, 1803, and was a boy when he came with his parents to Philadelphia. Married Ann Henry, daughter of Lieut. James Henry, 2d West India Regiment, Apr. 3, 1827. She was born in Ballyshannon, Ireland, Feb. 2, 1809. and died Nov. 26, 1880 (?). John A. Cantrell died Dec. 17, 1872. They were both communicants at Old Swedes church, Philadelphia, and are buried in the churchyard.
When quite young John A. Cantrell went into a drug store. Later he owned the drug store at the corner of South Second and Carpenter streets, Philadelphia. This corner has been occupied by three generations of the family as a place of business and residence, and is now in the possession of Mrs. Matilda Cantrell, a daughter-in-law of Dr. John A. Cantrell.
