John B. Collier was born on January 13, 1800 in Turkey Cove, Lee County, Virginia, United States. His parents were William Randolph Collier, Sr. and Catherine "Catreen" (Roberts) Collier.

John married Joanna (Barron) Collier circa 1820 in Tennessee, United States. Together they had the following children: William Gale Barron Collier; Matilda (Collier) Wilson; Abraham Murphy Collier; Amanda M. (Collier) Russell; Joseph B. Collier; Andrew Jackson Collier; Thomas H. B. Collier; John Wesley Collier; Anna Elizabeth (Collier) Wilson; Mahala Catherine (Collier) Collins; Maratus Collier.

He died on October 20, 1859 in Rochester, Andrew County, Missouri, United States and was buried in Gravel Wall Baptist Cemetery, Clay Township, Andrew County, Missouri, United States.



In December 1836 the Clay County court appointed him one of the Justices of the Peace and Constables of the territory that became Platte County two years later, in December 1838.
