About John "The Emigrant" Colvin, Sr.

Family Tradition maintains that John Colvin as a teenager escaped his apprenticeship in England by sailing to America as a stowaway.
John Colvin settled in Dartmouth, MA about 1675 and moved to Providence, RI about 1705. He purchased 300 acres of land from Andrew Harris in Providence (Cranston), RI, and in 1706 he purchased more land from two Carder brothers.
