John Crofts was born on Sunday, 2 February 1862 in Madison, Illinois.

At the age of 18, John Crofts married Ellen Lucinda Allen (16 years) in the St. George Temple, St. George, Utah.

John was one year old when his parents and siblings traveled in the Henry W. Miller Company departing Florence (now Omaha), Nebraska on August 1862 and arriving in Salt Lake City October 18, 1962. In the company were 665 individuals and 60 wagons.

He died on Sunday, 1 July 1934 at the age of 72 years, 4 months and 29 days.
