About John D. Crowe
John D. Crowe of Lewiston, a retired bookkeeper, orchardist and carpenter, died Friday July 20, 1990 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center of a heart attack. He was 76.
He was born Dec. 7, 1913, at Rocky Ford, Colo., to Otis and Effie Newland C row.
In 1929, the family moved to Billings, Mont., where he graduated in 1931 from Billings High School.
After high school, he attended Eastern Montana Normal School at Billings, where he graduated in 1933 with a teaching certificate. He served two years with the Civilian Conservation Corps.
He worked for a time for the U.S. Forest Service at Deception Creek, near Priest River, Idaho.
He married Edythe Gower June 24, 1939, at Columbus, Mont.
They moved to Lewiston in 1945, where he owned and operated a fruit orchard and did carpentry work. He later worked as a bookkeeper for Shaefer's Lumber Co., retiring in 1976.
His wife died June 2, 1987.
On Dec. 3, 1988, he married Chris Shears Whitted at Lewiston.
He was a charter member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and served on the organization's state board. He also was a member and former treasurer of the 49'ers Saddle Club.
He was a member of Orchards Community Church.
He enjoyed gardening and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Chris Crowe of Lewiston; two daughters, Cheryl Shaw of Mosier, Ore., and Cheri Storey of Spokane; two stepdaughters, Thelma Anderson of Lincoln City, Ore., and Linda Stolte of LaGrande, Ore.; two stepsons, Bud Lunders of Hebo, Ore., and John Lunders of Seattle; two brothers, Ross Crow of Billings and Floyd Crow of Hayden Lake, Idaho; two sisters, Leah Fullenwider of Carson, Calif., and June Price of Corona, Calif.; a grandson and several step-grandchildren.
Three brothers died previously.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Malcom's Brower-Wann Memorial Chapel at Lewiston with the Rev. Mark Brewster of Orchards Community Church officiating.
