About John Edward Davis

Coach Davis was the 6th out of 9 children born to Abram and Ruby Davis. His parents were adamant that their children have a relationship with God, integrity, and strong work ethics. He accepted Christ at an early age, and remained a faithful member of Union Prairie Missionary Baptist Church until his death.

After graduating from Williams High School, he matriculated thru Mary Allen, Texas Soutern, Prairie View A&M, and Stephen F Austin Universities, allowing him to coach many teams from Williams High to several basketball championships. Coach Davis was one of the first black teachers to work for Crockett ISD during integration. He loved science and spent many years teaching high school and middle school science.

Coach Davis enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1955. He served in the Korean War and was stationed in New York and Georgia areas. He was honorably discharged in July of 1959.
