The party originated in London and departed Gravesend, Kent, England - 3 December 1819. Arrived Table Bay, Cape Town - 17 March 1820. Final Port - Algoa Bay, Port Elizabeth - 10 April 1820.

Area allocated to the party - Wellington and Palmiet Rivers, Cuylerville.

John was accompanied by his Father Timothy (a carpenter) (33), Mother Eleanor Jones (30), and siblings Bridget (6), Jeremiah (4) and Catherine (2).

They lived at Fort Beaufort.
