OBITUARY:

John Edward Evans, 77, retired Salt Lake grocer and active Church member, died at 12:10am today at a local hospital.

Engaged in the grocery business here for 15 years Mr. Evans retired in 1920. He was an employee of the Dinwoody Furniture for 30 years prior to his entering business.

Mr. Evans was born Oct 11, 1858 in Bountiful, Utah, a son of John and Mary Ellison Evans early Utah pioneers. He came to Salt Lake at the age of 17 and in 1881 married Mary Ann Andrew who died in 1919. Active in Church work, he served in the California mission from 1925-1926, and was a high priest in the Thirty-first ward.

Mr. Evans is survived by five sons and daughters, J. Fred, Edward A., and Ralph W. Evans, Mrs. Heber R. Taylor, and Mrs Carl Chytraus, all of Salt Lake; three sisters, Mrs. Ephriam Briggs and Mrs. D. H. Wood, both of Bountiful and Miss Rebecca Evans of Salt Lake; and five brothers, William E. Evans of Denver, Colorado, James Evans of Bountiful, Chauncey L. Evans of Salt Lake and Jess G. and Willard Evans, both of Bountiful. Sixteen grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in the Thirty-first ward chapel by Bishop June B. Sharp. Friends may call at the White Chapel mortuary tomorrow evening at the residence, 943 Lake streeet, from 10am until 12 noon. Burial will be the City Cemetery.
