John McLean Ewing was born in Rochester Mills, Indiana County, Pennsylvania on January 22, 1874 the son of Thomas H. Ewing and Lucy King. He married Minnie Reed Key (McCarthy) on June 23, 1900 in Fort Collins, Colorado. (Minnie was born Dec. 22, 1879 in Longmont, Colorado the adopted daughter of Joseph Franklin and Eliza Alice (Beasley) Key.) His family had a homestead near Roubadeux Pass SW of Gering, Nebraska in 1887. Prior to 1900 he helped his father with his affairs. 1900 on he was a farmer and rancher raising cattle near Gering. Owner of 3500 A in SW Scottsbluff County. He built several of the first irrigation ditches and farmers canals for Senator Akers. He freighted from Kimball to Gering before the Railroads were built. He was a member of the Nebraska Stockgrowers Association. He collected Indian relics and opened the Ewing Museum in Gering. He married Wilma Rock on June 9, 1956 in Scottsbluff,Nebraska. His children: Tellford Monroe (Helen Logan) born March 18, 1904, Wyola Myrtle (Melvin Bennett)born April 7, 1907 had 2 sons: Curtis Ewing and J. Bryan, Louella Alice (Cyrus Tharp born Oct. 22, 1899)born April 19, 1905 they had no children and Dwight Thomas (Ruby L. Miller married Dec. 24, 1935 and divorced Jan. 6, 1945 - she was born May 14, 1913 - the dauther of Henry M. and Ethel (Lane) Miller - they had no children),2nd marriage to Lena Elizabeth (Trusty) Leuerman who was born Sept. 14, 1906 in Fort Randall, South Dakota the daughter of Francis Marion and Anna Caroline (Junker) Trusy. No Children and third marriage to Elsie Lane born March 12, 1911.)
