On the 13th inst., when the steamer Waitemata was at Newcastle, a seaman named John Forman, belonging to the vessel, fell from the coal jetty into the water. The alarm was raised but all efforts to find Forman were unavailing. The police then dragged for the body, and recovered it an hour later. Deceased was a New Zealander, thirty-three years of age, his father being foreman of the Union Company's coal gang at Lyttelton. Captain M'Lean, of the Waitemata, reported the occurrence to the port shipping master yesterday.
