About John Frame

He told a grandson that he was born in County Cork, Ireland in 1707. Some of the Ulster Scots did indeed move south into County Cork.

He came to America at an unknown date. His children were baptized at Craig Parish (Presbyterian), Stone and Tinkling Creek Meeting Houses in Augusta County, by Rev. John Craig.

In 1742 his name appears on a muster of men in Company 3 under the command of Capt. James Cathey in Augusta County.

On 5 May 1745 he bought 400 acres bordering Hugh Duglass, from Thomas Stevenson (Augusta Co. Land Entry Bk. 1). On 11 August 1746 he bought an additional 150 acres adjoining his own land (Land Entry Bk. 1). In 1748 he and Joseph Hanna bought land jointly on Naked Creek from Jennet Stark alias McDonald, "and there was great intimacy between the families."

He died before 6 August 1750 when the Vestry voted £4 to Margaret Frame "a poor widow woman", for support of her children.

After his death, on 29 May 1760, King George II granted 150 acres of land on a branch of Naked Creek to John Frame, originally applied for in 1746. In May/November 1760 John's eldest son and heir David filed suit against Joseph Hanna, alleging that that 12 years earlier John Frame and Joseph Hanna jointly patented 136 acres of land on Naked Creek shortly before John Frame's death; that Joseph Hanna entered the deed in his own name but was responsible for establishing 70 acres in John Frame's name; that David Frame was John Frame's oldest son and heir; that Margaret Frame was John Frame's widow; that John Frame died intestate; that additional funds were collected from Margaret Frame by Joseph Hanna towards purchase of the 70 acres; and that a deed had not yet been issued to Margaret Frame for the 70 acres.

A John Frame bought 4,774.25 acres in Fayette County, Kentucky, in part as assignee of [. . .] Kelly (Frankfort Land Office 13:254).
