About John W. Geis
John W. Geis, 77, a Lewiston resident, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at Tri-State Memorial Hospital in Clarkston of a heart attack.
John was born May 20, 1923, to Michael and Anna Poxleitner Geis at Cottonwood. He attended school there for several years before helping out on the family farm. In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the 163rd Infantry. During his time in the service during World War II, he spent time in Australia, the Philippines and Japan.
In 1946 after his military release, he worked on various ranches before going to work for Potlatch Corp. in 1948. He retired in 1985. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and taking care of his yard.
He is survived by his wife, LaThelma Price Geis of Lewiston; two sons, John W. Geis Jr. of Apex, N.C., and Edward Geis of Boise; daughter, Robin K. Elliot of Lewiston; two granddaughters, Chandra K. Berg and Rachael L. Richie, both of Clarkston; grandson, John W. Geis III of Orlando, Fla.; four great-grandchildren; three brothers; and six sisters.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Malcom's Brower-Wann Memorial Chapel in Lewiston. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. Monday at Malcom's with the Rev. Jim Higgins of Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow at Normal Hill Cemetery with the VFW Sourdough Post 10043 concluding the services.
