John Gahring, 82, died at his home in Oakland Township, near Dempseytown, at 10:30 pm Saturday from pneumonia. He was born in Germany October 8, 1823.
He had been an invalid more than a year from rheumatism and, when seized with pneumonia, his advanced age and drain on his constitution from his long illness caused his death. When he was 18 years old, he came to America and located in Venango County, and most of his long and useful life was spent in the homestead where his death occurred Saturday. He was a large property owner in that section, and a progressive farmer. He was a member of the Dempseytown Evangelical Lutheran Church.
His wife has been dead for some years, and he is survived by children, Elizabeth A. Gahring, Katherine Gahring, George M. and John Gahring, all at home; brothers and sisters, Christian of Missouri, Leonard of Ohio, Jacob of Rocky Grove, George and Godfrey of Dempseytown.
Services will be at his church with Rev. H. J. Reimann, pastor of Good Hope Lutheran Church of Oil City at 10:30 am Tuesday .
