About John Anderson Gilbert
Deacon John Anderson Gilbert, 89 years of age, of 541 Clay Road, Denmark Township, died unexpectedly on
Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at his residence.
He was born on Friday, June 8, 1923, in Hawkinsville, Georgia, and was the last living son of Thomas Henry Gilbert and Louisa Ann Smith and had lived in northeastern Ohio much of his life.
He was a member of Central Missionary Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a Deacon in 1961. He served as Sunday School Superintendent and Head of the Deacon Board.
His father Thomas Henry and his mother Louisa Ann Gilbert; his beloved wife, Mary Gilbert; one late son Johnny Anison Gilbert, Jr. and one late daughter Tina Louise Gilbert; and seven siblings, twins Thomas Gilbert and Tommy Lee Gilbert, Henry Harry Gilbert, James Henry Gilbert, Laura Mae Moore(Gilbert), Lucinda Mae Horne(Gilbert) and Cora Lee Sherfield (Gilbert) all preceded him in death.
Survivors include five nieces, Luisa Gilbert Simmons of Miami, Florida; Earnestine Gilbert of Akron; Bertina Gilbert of Miami, Florida; Rosa Mae Whitted (Gilbert) and Sheila Hood (Gilbert), both in Hopkins, South Carolina.; and two nephews, James Gilbert in France and John Gilbert in Florida; one great-niece Lashawn Gilbert and her sons Jeffrey Wheeler, Jr., Jevon Wheeler and Telvin Gilbert and Isaiah Wheeler all of Erie, Pennsylvania.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00am, Wednesday, January 30th, 2013, at Central Missionary Baptist Church, 930 Clay Road, Denmark Township, with the Rev. Samuel Richardson officiating. Burial will be in South Denmark Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 10am until time of Service, Wednesday, at the Church.
Contributions may be directed to the family, in care of Rosa Mae Whitted (Gilbert).
