John Goodwin was born January 30, 1799, in Virginia ; was married June 2, 1825, to Sarah Bartlett, who was born February 12, 1809, a daughter of Eppa and Rebecca (Barnes) Bartlett.

By occupation he was a farmer and teacher, in politics a Republican, and in religion a Methodist.

They resided in Harrison county. Sarah (Bartlett) Goodwin died September 3, 1874, in Harrison county, W. Va. John Goodwin died July 28, 1880, in Harrison county.

Children:

i. Rebecca, born May 2, 1827, unmarried;

ii. Elizabeth T., born November 14, 1829, married Alfred St. Clair ;

iii. Nancy J., born March 8, 1831, married Elias Lawson ;

iv. Mary, born October 20, 1832, married Nathan L. Bartlett;

v. Sarah, born June 15, 1834, married James Bartlett ;

vi. James W., born February 21, 1836, unmarried;

vii. Comfort, born July 9, 1838, married W. L. Shields ;

viii. Edith, born February 21, 1841, unmarried;

ix. Eppa D., born June 19, 1843, married Marrietta Lang;

x. Zepporah, born November 19, 1848, unmarried;

xi. Granville, born October 10, 1849, married Mary Wiseman;

xii. Franklin Sylvanus, born January 17, 1852, killed October 20, 1871, by fall in mines.
