OBITUARY (Logan County Banner, Oct. 9, 1895) Death of John Gore Died, at the residence of his son, Leander Gore, on Hart's Creek, at 7 o'clock last Saturday evening, John Gore, in his eightieth year. No man in Logan County was better known or more beloved than Mr. Gore. He was distinctly a man of the people and a friend to every one. He was, for a long time, Surveyor of the county, and only laid down the compass and chain when he become too infirm to climb our hills. Mr. Gore was married in early life to Miss Margaret Dingess, who has preceded him to the grave. He leaves to survive him three sons, Floyd S., Harvey and Leander, and five daughters, Mrs. Jackson Mullins, Mrs. Squire Toney, Mrs. Guy Lawson, Mrs. Anthony Lawson and Mrs. Bryan McDonald. We are glad to learn that while his suffering were great, he dying with catarrh of the stomach, that he bore his sufferings with christian fortitude, and met calmly the blow of the death angel. He was one of the links that bound us to the past, one of the old men who delighted in telling what this country was nearly a century ago. He has, however, joined the great majority, and is once more in company with the friends of his youth. And we should not mourn him, but rather rejoice that his is free from the ills and pains which are the heritage of old age. Mourn not for him, you shall soon meet him again.
