About John William Hancock
, John Hancock, son of Ebenezer Hancock and Elizabeth Lowell, was b. Feb. 22,1774 in Boston, Mass.; m. with ELIZABETH "Betsey" SCOTT, dau. of Capt. James Scott and Mary Richardson. She was b. 1779 in England and d. Aug. 31,1830 in Boston. He d. Jan. 2,1859 in Boston. Both Buried at Granary Burial Ground, Boston, Suffolk Co., Mass.
Children were: James Scott (1800), Elizabeth Lowell (1803-1806), John (1804-1854), Thomas (1806-1873), George 1808-1885), Charles Lowell (1810-1890), William Emerson (1812-1851), Elizabeth Lowell (1814-1857), Mary Lydia (1816-1851), Franklin (1812-1885), Washington (1822-1904).

- 1850 census: John (76), in Boston w ch. Thomas (44), George (42), Charles L. (40), William E. (38), Mary L. (34), Franklin (31), and Washington (28). Also living with them is dau. Elizabeth L.H. Moriarty (30), her ch. John H. (10), Joseph M. (8), and C.L. H. (6). John Hancock is listed as a gentleman, as are Thomas and George. Charles L. is an councillor at law, William E. & Franklin are also listed as gentlemen. Washington is a councillor at law.
- 1855 census: ('mistakenly listed with Susan O'Niel as head of household..she is carry over from another unrelated household. There are also errors in that ch of Elizabeth Moriarty are coded as Hancock instead of Moriarty)'John Hancock (81) w children George (47), Charles (45), Franklin (36), dau.
