John Barnard Hankey bought back the manor to restore Fetcham Park (which his father Thomas Had bought in 1792) as a manor house. He also undertook some building work under Thomas Cubitt in 1837. His grandson, also John Barnard Hankey, completely remodelled the house using Edward l'Anson after he inherited the house c. 1875.
