About John Leonard Hatch

Mr. Hatch was born May 1, 1889 in Hatch, Idaho to Thomas Asa Hatch and Sarah Parkin Hatch. He attended the Albion State Normal Scool and served on a mission for the LDS church in the Southern States from 1911 to 1913. He farmed in Hatch and taught school in Hatch and Soda Springs. He taught Seminary in Soda Springs for three years and for nine years in the Hatch area.

Mr. Hatch's first wife, Violet Perry, died in 1918 after just two years of marriage. It was while Leonard was principal of the Hooper Elementary School in Soda Springs, that he married a former student from Hatch, Christina Higginson in Jan. 19,1921. Mr. Hatch was Bishop of the Hatch ward for 17 years and Branch President in Vancover, Wash., for three years during war years.

Mr. and Mrs.Hatch are the parents of four sons. One son, Jarold L. died at the age of four years. Dr. Bill P. Hatch resides and practices in Phoenix, Arizona; R. Hal Hatch is a school principal in Merridian, Idaho and Thomas G. Hatch resides and farms in the Topoance area. Leonard and Christina have 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
