Fell Off Bridge

John Hawkins Drowned in Fishing Creek, Thursday Night

John Hawkins, aged 47 years employed as a blacksmith at the New Martinsville Glass works, met with accidental death Thursday night by falling off the railroad bridge into fishing Creek, at the south end of the city. Hawkins had been drinking rather freely during the day, and it is supposed to have become befuddled on the bridge and toppled over. His body was recovered Friday morning.

Hawkins lived on a farm near Maud, and leaves a wife and family. The body was prepared for burial and taken to Reader on Saturday, where the interment took place.
