RITES FOR J. H. KOOP, MERCHANT IN
 BRAINERD FOR 53 YEARS, SCHEDULED
 SATURDAY MORNING CROSBY CHURCH
                           _____

Funeral services will be held from St. Joseph's Catholic church in Crosby at 10 a. m. Saturday for John Herman Koop, 78, a resident of Brainerd for 53 years, who died this week in Topeka, Kan., where he had resided since 1929. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Brainerd.

Mr. Koop was a merchant in Brainerd for over half a century, operating a grocery business here almost from his arrival in Brainerd in 1876 to his retirement in 1929. He was widely known throughout this area.
Mr. Koop had been in very poor health for the past four months, succumbing finally to a cerebral hemorrhage.
He was born in Hanover, Germany, Feb. 19, 1859 and came to Brainerd directly from that city. He was a pioneer merchant here and was one of the men who helped build Brainerd from a pioneer lumbering city to its present position.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Sybella [sic] Koop, three daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Berg, Little Falls; Mrs. Odelia Heckert, Los Angeles; and Mrs. Hildegard Dusinelli, Topeka, and two sons Severn E. Koop of Crosby; and Anthony P. Koop of Topeka. A granddaughter, Marie Louise Matchan, who made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Koop most of her life; and six other grand-children also survive.
Mr. and Mrs. Koop had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1933.
Officiating at the rites in Crosby Saturday will be the Rev. Maloney. Six nephews of Mr. Koop will act as pallbearers at the services. (Brainerd Daily Dispatch, 02 December 1937, p. 12, c's. 3 & 4)
