About John Lane
Birth: 1653 in Billerica, MA, USA. Death: Jan. 24, 1737 in Lanesville (Gloucester), Essex County, Massachusetts, USA. Son of James Lane and Sarah ?. Originally settled with his parents in Yarmouth, ME. He m. Dorcas Wallis, d. John Wallis who was an early inhabitant of Falmouth, ME and a prominent citizen. John settled near his wife's father at Porpoodock Point in 1687, and here had 5 children. Moved to Gloucester, MA following second destruction of Falmouth by Indians. Settled Lanesville. He and Daniel Day received a grant of some swamp land above their houses in 1701 "with the consent of John Haraden, Samuel Sargent, Edward Haraden, and the rest of the neighbors". In 1704 he had a grant of 10 acres on the Cove to which his name was subsequently attached. In 1726 was living on the northern part of Plum Cove Neck, when he had a grant of land there near his house. He also had large real estate in ME, both by purchase and inheritance. Estate after his death valued at 2000 pounds.

Also another pr'cell of Land being an Island Comonly Called Reddings Jsland being on the Eastward side of Mare point Neck, Together wth all ye pr'cell of Land being upon Mare point Neck, bounded wth the Land formerly inye possession of Ncholas White Comonly known by ye name of Sandy point Together wth' all the Marsh & Marsh grounds formerly in ye possession of Thomas Redding, being Sixty acres more or less as pr Deed from John Cleares Dated the 15th of May 1673: acknowldged & Recorded Item.
Another Island known by ye name of Arnolds Jsland or Mosiers Jsland wth a Neck of Marsh ground containing 3 or 4 Acres lying up ye River called the Little River, as pr Deed from James Mosier and John Mosier Dated 28th Decembr 1669. neither acknowledged nor Recorded
