FELL TO HIS DEATH.
John Leary Fell From a Scaffold and Had His Neck Broken.

A young man met a shocking death Saturday forenoon while faithfully discharging his duties as an employee of the Calumet & Hecla Mining Company. His name is John Leary, a highly esteemed and respected youth, who was the only support of a widowed mother, three sisters and one brother.
Young Leary was working with the construction crew on No. 15 shaft house on Calumet Avenue. He was standing on a scaffolding some 35 feet from the ground, rigging up a block and tackle for the purpose of hoisting heavy planks. In reaching up to attach the block, he lost his balance and plunged forward to the ground. It was a frightful fall, and his fellow workers stood aghast at the sight. Tenderly they raised from the ground and sent him in the ambulance to the company's hospital. His neck was broken, and no medical treatment could save him, and he passed away about 3 o'clock in the afternoon without regaining consciousness. The body was removed to the sorrowing home on Middle Street in the evening, and dependent mother and three small sisters are nearly crazed with grief. His younger brother is attending school at Cincinnati, being educated for the priesthood by friends of the family in this city. His father also met an untimely end in the Calumet branch of the same mine some years ago.
Deceased was 22 years of age, and universally respected for his manly conduct and care of mothers and sisters. The funeral will take place Tuesday morning from Sacred Heart church, and interment will be at Lake View.

The remains of John Leary, who was killed Saturday, were interred in the Hecla Cemetery yesterday morning. Services were held in the Sacred Heart Church.
