John Lewis Greene was married twice:
First to Evaline Greene (Edgmon) (Ten children together.
Second to Nancy Jane Snider (Kinnard?). Eight children together. Married 4 June 1887. The Greene Doc says she had four childer (three boys including twins and one girl with JLGreene.
Evalene, his wife, was very strong anti-slavery which may have been a factor in John Louis' joining the Union Army though his brothers joined the South. *added to American Civil War project
He taught school. He rode a bicycle into town every day to get the daily paper at the age of 70. If he met a team, he rode into the bushes rather than stopping on the road. He bought and wore out three cars. That's a long ways from a one-team wagon he once drove. He was about 70 when he got his first car. He drove until he was 93. He couldn't see very well, so he banged his cars up pretty much. This didn't bother John Lewis. He made three trips by car to California, but someone else did most of the driving. He lived alone for many years. The last years of his life his daughter, Almeda, lived with him. He died in his own home a mile east of Fremont.
