About John MacRae
"John and his brother Roderick Macrae emigrated from Kintail, Scotland and settled in North Carolina around 1774, just in time to support the losing side in the Revolutionary War. They fought for the king at Moore's Bridge in 1776 and, as refugees and United Empire Loyalists, arrived in Quebec, Canada. John's wife died in giving birth to their only child, also named John.
John (and son John) eventually moved to Glengarry County in Ontario, where young John married Isabel Chisholm (1804), daughter of Colonel Alexander Chisholm. Some of the children moved to Manitoba and then onwards to British Columbia." http://clanmacrae.ca/documents/chapt_3.htm, accessed 2015/02/03
