About John B. Mallory

John B. Mallory (1759-1844), a Patriot of the American Revolution for VIRGINIA with the rank of Corporal.

Do not confuse him with John Mallory, of Harrison County, Kentucky.

He was married four times: (1) unknown first wife, (2) Lucy Sutherland, (3) Elizabeth, and (4) Nancy Brown (DAR). Some online sources say he also married Samantha Allen (Findagrave, Violette) but that confuses him with a different John Mallory,

He enlisted in 1777 in the 2nd Virginia Regiment, Orange County, Virginia, serving as a Corporal and a saddler under Capt. Smith and Col. Gaskins. He was honorably discharged at Fredericksburg, Virginia in 1780 by Brigadier-General Charles Scott. He applied for a pension 21 January at Limestone County, Alabama. He applied a second time on 11 November 1835 from Benton County, Alabama. His second application was rejected because he was already receiving a pension. He was living in Benton County, Alabama with his son Henry H. Mallory at the time of the 1840 census. He was age 75, and a pensioner of the the Revolutionary War. John Mallory's name as a Soldier of the Revolution is inscribed on a bronze tablet in the court house square at Anniston, Alabama, as being buried in that county and giving his age at the time of his death as 80 years.
