About John Whitson Marr
John Whitson Marr, farmer and stock raiser, fifth child of the late David Marr, was born January 20, 1852. He spent his boyhood days on his father's farm two miles north and one mile west of Cornelia (Shanghai) and about 1/4 mile east of the present residence of Marr's present residence. Mr. Marr has been a very persevering farmer and by food financiering has secured a good home consisting of 350 acres of good well improved land; also considerable other assets. He has a snug fortune and is ranked as one of the most substantial frames in his township.
Mr. Marr has held several positions of trust in his community, having teen Trustee of school board, and deacon in church at Mt. Zion. He is an ardent Republican in politics. Mr. Marr is heart and soul for anything that advances the interest of the farmer. He holds stock in practically all the various co-operative enterprises that have come into existence the last 40 years. He is what our modern political economist brothers would call a "dyed in the wool" class class-conscious farmer.
