John Martin, an old employ of the Calumet & Hecla company, was killed underground just before noon yesterday. He was taking down some vein rock from the hanging wall south of No. 2 shaft in the 34th level when some loose portions fell unexpectedly and struck him in the back, killing him instantly. He was taken to the Calumet & Hecla hospital where Undertakers Ryan prepared the body for burial, but at the time of writing the date of the funeral had not been fixed. He leaves only a wife and a brother.
