One of the more reputable men bearing the Mason surname, is a man from the early seventeenth century from Dorchester named Major John Mason.
I do not believe this John Mason of Watertown is the same person as Major John Mason, but that he is a different person. I am currently investigating records which indicate that John Mason was a captain, a yeoman, the brother of Hugh Mason, and was born around 1605, but was not the man known as the "Pequot Fighter."
