Funeral Services Held for Rev. J. D. Mize
Rev. John Drew Mize, 93, retired Baptist minister of Jonesboro died Wednesday morning at the home of a daughter in Alexandria [Lecompte] after a long illness.
A minister for over 60 years, he had pastored and had organized a number of churches throughout the area. Rev. Mize was a native Jackson Parish.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday at Springhill Baptist Church near Jonesboro with the Rev. Leonard Garlington, Rev. Harrison Cockerham and Rev. J. W. Kennedy officiating. Burial was in Springhill Cemetery by Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
Survivors include five sons, Allen Mize of West Monroe, Davey Mize of St. Joseph, Ezra Mize of Hodge and Milton and Herschel Mize, both of Jonesboro; six daughters, Mrs. Dena Frith of West Monroe, Mrs. Anna Womack and Mrs. Clemmie Savage, both of Jonesboro, Mrs. Virgil Turner of St. Joseph, Mrs. Ire Johns of Alexandria and Mrs. Lillie Holsomback of Lecompte; 57 grandchildren, 127 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Clinton Mize, Lowell Mize, Morrell Mize, Billy Drew Mize, Jerald Savage, Drewery Holsomback, Ray Johns, John W. Frith and Lavelle Womack.
