Biography

John Phillip Nixon was a successful rancher, owned two large ranches; one in Yancey and one in Tarpley, Texas located in northern Medina County. He raised cattle and horses. He was one of the early breeders of the American Quarter Horse, along with his father, Robert Thomas Nixon. With his expertise and enjoyment of ranching, he became a rancher and breeder of Quarter Horses instead of attending college and the medical or legal profession as some of his brothers chose. He was an early member of The Texas Quarter Horse Association.[https://tqha.com/] Nixon's Quarter Horses are well-known.

John Phillip Nixon was born on January 20, 1857, in Guadalupe County, Texas, United States. His parents were Captain Robert Thomas Nixon and Laura Ann Nixon. He was a Ranchman.

John married Dora Ann Nixon (Wilson) on February 3, 1887, in Tehuacana, Limestone, Texas, United States. Together they had the following children:

John married Mary Renot Nixon ( Neal) on November 16, 1914, in Hondo, Medina County, Texas, USA.
