John Noble

John Noble (1941 - 2013)

Brief overview:

John (72), and his wife Hester Noble (60), were attacked and murdered in their home in Shongweni Valley, Durban, KZN, on 6th November 2013, when four men gained entry to their home. John who was tied up with his hands behind his back, and gagged with a plastic bag, had been severely beaten, with open wounds on his right arm, before being strangled to death. Hester was found strangled with an oxygen pipe.

A case of double murder and house robbery was opened at the Hillcrest police station and Constable Siboniso Ntembe was assigned to investigate.

  • Three suspects were arrested in total. On 10th November 2013, Ntembe received a tip off on the whereabouts of the murderers and two of them were arrested. On 12th November 2013 a third man was arrested.

  • The suspects appeared in court and were denied bail.
  • Siyabonga Xaba (25), Sicelo Matabane (31), and Khulekani Mathonsi (31), were sentenced to two life sentences each for murder and 18 years each for house robbery. The sentences are to run concurrently.
