Co. F 19 US Cav Dragoons (from grave site) 1st Regiment DragoonsNY (from web site) John S. Obourn is listed in the 1900 Bradford County Directory, with daughter Susie A., having a Monroeton address and a house and lot in Monroe Township, road 18. His obituary was printed in both the Bradford Republican and the Towanda Reporter-Journal. "John Obourn, another of Monroeton's oldest citizens, died at his home here Thursday evening, Oct. 26, of paralysis. Mr. Obourn had been feeble for a number of years. He leaves five children to mourn the loss of a kind and loving father: Hiram of Denver, Louis and George both of Mansfield, Mrs. Martha Palmer and Miss Susie Obourn both of this place. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Oct. 30, at 2 o'clock from the house."

From memories of Robert Lyle Obourn: John was a farmer who lived near Harrisburg, PA. He lost his leg during a cavalry fight a few days before Gettysburg. Malcolm Rodney Obourn (a Civil War buff) has his discharge papers. Per Mac, he was enlisted in the Union army out of New York and served several years during the Civil War.

Dates of death in John S Obourn's records show two children dying on the same date: Mary (or May) and Thomas W Obourn, both dates of death as May 4, 1867. No additional details noted.
