About John Lloyd Offenbacker
John Lloyd Offenbacker, 76, passed away at his home on Route 3, Luray, Tuesday, June 30, at 7 p.m. Mr. Offenbacker had been in ill health for some time. Mr. Offenbacker was born June 6, 1888, in Stanley and was the son of Manuel and Liza Cave Offenbacker. For some time he owned and operated a grocery store on Tanner's Ridge and dealt in used furniture and antiques. In 1946, he purchased a home at Luray and bought a grocery store in Stanley which he called Offenbacker's Grocery. He operated this store until 1958, at which time he retired from the grocery business due to failing health. Mr. Offenbacker is survived by his wife, Mrs. Minnie Offenbacker and the following children: Lloyd Offenbacker, of Stanley, Cecil and Simon Offenbacker, of Silver Spring, Md., Mrs. Reed (Virginia) Weakley of Silver Spring, Md., Mrs. Rastus (Ruth) Lam, of Luray and Mrs. Alvah (Naomi) Bailey, of Luray. Also surviving are sixteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Lyle Meadows, Mrs. Viola Nease and Mrs. Lizzie Weakley, all of Stanley. Two sisters and one brother are deceased. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of the Bradley Funeral Home, July 3, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. John Bradley officiating.
