His Father's Last Will and Testament

John Peadie made his last will and testament at Glasgow on 1 October 1631. He nominated his wife Marie Muir to be his only executor and universal intromitter with his goods and gear. He also nominated and appointed his brother, James Peadie, skinner in Glasgow, and his eldest son, also James Peadie, to be tutors testamentar to John Peadie, Marion Peadie and Bessie Peadie: "his thrie bairnes procreat betwixt mim & the said Marie Muir". He left an annuity to his eldest daughter Janet Peadie: "the yeirlie proffeit of ane thousand punds mony during her wedowhead". In the event of her marrying for a second time she was to receive five hundred merks from the principal sum and the remainder was to be given to two of her sons (identified as John Peadie's oyes), three hundred merks to Robert Hunter, and seven hundred merks to William Hunter. In the event of their death the money was to be divided equally between Bessie Peadie and Jonet Peadie, his youngest daughters. Confirmation was granted to Marie Muir on 21 February 1632.
