About John Peter
is the third child and the third and youngest son of Thomas Peter, merchant, burgess, and guild brother of Glasgow, and his wife, Janet Frew. He was born before 31 May 1722, the date upon which his baptism was registered at Glasgow in Lanarkshire, Scotland [Scotland, Births and Baptisms, 1564-1950, index, FamilySearch] https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XYS2-NYR His baptismal record reads as follows: "Thomas Peter & Janet Frew a lawfull son John Wit Robert Fulton & Archibald Kelso" [Registrar General for Scotland, New Register House, Edinburgh, Glasgow Baptisms, 1719-28, reference OPR.644/10].
It cannot yet be regarded as being certain but it seems quite likely, probable even, that John Peter is the unnamed child of Thomas Peter, senior, merchant in Glasgow, who died before 27 July 1723, the date upon which a mortcloth was hired at Glasgow for his burial [Registrar General for Scotland, HM New Register House, Edinburgh, Glasgow Death Records, 1723-39, reference OPR.644/46].
