In the 1851 Census, John is registered living at 125 High St., Shadwell at the home of Abigail Phillips, the widow of Nathan/Na[htali Phillips. John is recorded as her son, aged 14, a Cigar Maker born Shadwell, Middlesex. However, he does not appear with his siblings and parents in the 1841 Census. But it is possible that he is the 'John Phillips' who is found at the home of Phineas/Philip Phillips in 1841, at 21 Carter St., in the parish of St. Botolph Aldgate, City of London. John was recorded as aged 6 so born c.1835 - he does not appear with Phineas/Philip & family in 1851, so perhaps it is him who was found with Abigail Phillips in 1851 but not 1841. Like Phineas, Naphtali/Nathan Phillips also had a son called Godfrey Phillips (Eliyakum Goetslik), born 27th Sept 1834, who in 1851 was recorded as being a Cigar Maker. This all begs the question as to whether the two families were related; especially as Godfrey Phineas Phillips son of Phineas Phillips married Rose Harris, daughter of Solomon Harris, and Naphtali Phillips' 2nd wife was Abigail Harris, and his first wife had been Ella b. Solomon Zalman, perhaps her sister? Godfrey Phineas Phillips was also a Cigar Maker.
