There are two primary Ramsdell lines of colonial ancestry in our country. The oldest is the Joseph Ramsden (or Ramsdell) line of Plymouth, Mass. Joseph ( 1620-1674) married Rachel, daughter of Frances Eaton and thus, forever united the Ramsdell name with the Mayflower passengers. John Ramsdell (1602-1688), who may have been a member of the Dorchester group of merchants who sailed in 1632, was early at Lynn, Mass. and left thousands of descendants throughout the northeast and the northwest.
