John C. Reneau was born 21 April 1836 in Blount County, Alabama, and died 3 April 1910 in Blount County, Alabama. He was the son of Samuel T. Reneau and Louvisa Bynum Reneau. He married Celia Murphree 2 October 1864 in Blount County, Alabama He married (2) Nancy E. Engle on August 1903 in Blount County, Alabama.
He served in the Confederate Army in Alabama Pvt Co I 49th Regt Ala and was wounded at the Battle of Nashville. Captured and later contracted typhoid fever and upon recovery was parolled by the Union Army as unfit for further military duty. He was employed by Elijah Murphree to rebuild a mill which had been burned by the scalawags and hideouts of Nicker Jack. He met Celia while boarding at their home.
